1. What is the deadline for the bachelor program / master program / PhD program / language program application?

A: Deadlines for each year and each level of study are different but below are the  usual application deadlines for the programs.

Chinese Language Program: June 30th

Bachelor’s Program: June 15th

Masters & Ph.D Program: May 30th


2. Which types of scholarship are available to apply for?

A: China University of Petroleum-Beijing has many scholarships offered to foreign students. These have different application requirements and eligibility criteria.

These include: The Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A & B), China University of Petroleum-Beijing (CUP) Scholarship (1st, 2nd, and 3rd Class), Beijing Government Foreign Students Scholarship (1st and 2ndClass), Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship, Outstanding Alumni Scholarship etc.

3. Can I apply both for CUPB scholarship and CSC scholarship?

A: Yes, Students are free and encouraged to apply for more than one scholarship. As long as you are eligible for more than one scholarship, you can apply for as many scholarships as you are eligible to, but the final result will only confirm one kind of scholarship


4. How can I find supervisor? (Msc / PhD)

A: Supervisors can be found by checking our website to identify supervisors working in your interested research direction and contact them through the contact information on the website.

You are advised to be patient as you contact the supervisors as they are busy and may take long to reply the emails because they receive a lot of correspondence from prospective students.

5. When will the online interview be held?

A: Interviews are usually held after applications close at the end of May or early June. We will send you a notice in advance through your registered email and you are encouraged to keep monitoring your email. You can also check out the dates on the 'CUPB Notices' part of the website as this is the official communication medium for the College of International Education for all notices


6. What is the language of the online interview?

A: The online enrollment interviews are held in English or Chinese depending on the language of study applied for by a particular applicant.


7. How can I prepare for the online interview?

A: You need to prepare for the technical aspects of your applied major and be well conversant with your study plan. You also need to prepare a stable internet connection and choose a quiet environment and dress in a presentable manner. The best advice is that be sure and know your motivation to apply for a specific program as this usually ties into most of the interview points.


8. How can I track the status of my application?

A: The application system always shows the status of each student’s application and all applicants are encouraged to log onto the system to check the status of their admission. Below is a guide to the meaning of each status;

1. CIE Reviewing - Application undergoing first review by College of International Education

2. CIE Sent back -  Application sent back to student for correction and re-submission.

3. CIE Accepted - Application passed first review by ClE and Pre-Admission letter will be sent soon.

4. College Reviewing - Application under review by respective teaching College to which the student applied.

   Interviews are conducted at this stage. (Interview dates sent to students Email and on website at least 3 days in advance)

5. College Accepted - Application passed College review and the student will undergo scholarship review.

6. Admission - Applicant successful and admission materials are prepared to be sent to the student.


9. I received the Pre-Admission Notice. Does it mean that I am already admitted?

A: No, a Pre-admission letter is the first step and does not mean you are an admitted student of CUP. A Pre-admission letter indicates that you fulfill the minimum admission requirements and your application has passed the College of International Education review and it will be forwarded to the teaching colleges to which the applicant belongs to for further review.


10. How will I know that I am admitted?

A: When you are admitted, the status in the application system will indicate “Admitted”, you will also receive an email informing you that you are admitted. Lastly, you will get an email indicating the postage of your admission materials after which you will receive the hard copies of your admission materials.


11. When can I receive the documents needed for visa application?

A: Visa application materials are usually sent one month to the opening of a new semester. This is usually beginning of August for the fall semester and January for the spring semester.


12. How to apply for a visa? Which type of visa do I need to apply for?

A: Application for a visa is done at the Embassy or Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in your country or territory. This is done by presenting the application materials sent from the university (Original Admission Notice & JW202/JW201 Visa Application Form) and any other documents required by the embassy or Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in your country or territory.

Students are required to apply for;

X1 Visa ---(For study in China for a period of more than 180 days.)

X2 Visa ---(For study in China for a period of less than 180 days.)


13. What are the language proficiency requirements for a study program in English / Chinese?

CHINESE TAUGHT PROGRAMS

Bachelors -- HSK 4 (222 or above)

Masters & Ph.D --HSK 5 (180 or above)

ENGLISH TAUGHT PROGRAMS

Bachelors

IELTS≧6.0 or TOEFL≧75 points  or TOEFL Essentials≥8, (DI Code: C806) for non native speakers of English, A certificate which can prove you have been taught in English during your previous study for more than two years.

Masters & Ph.D

IELTS≧6.5 or TOEFL≧80 points or TOEFL Essentials≥9, (DI Code: C806) for non native speakers of English, A certificate which can prove you have been taught in English for the during your previous study for more than two years.


14. Can I simultaneously submit applications for different study programs in your university?

A: Unfortunately you can only apply for one study program at a time and even though a student makes more than one application, the university will only issue one admission letter to successful candidates at the end of each application cycle.


15. I finished Chinese language courses in another university in China and want to apply for bachelor degree program in CUPB. Do I need to take Chinese language proficiency exam in your university?

A: All successful applicants that are admitted and did not study their Chinese language at CUP will undergo a Chinese Language test as they report to the university and have to pass it before they can start their studies.


16. Q: Which documents are required to apply for bachelor program / master program / PhD program / language studies?

Chinese Language Studies

1.Scanned copies of all China visa pages and China entry and exit record pages

2. Notarized copies of your Highest level graduation certificates(If you have not graduated, please provide a "Pre-graduation certificate")

3. Notarized copies of your Highest level transcripts

17. Do I need to notarize my application materials? If so, which documents do I need to notarize?

A: Yes, you need to have your documents notarized. Most importantly your Highest level Degree certificates, Transcripts and a guardian Certificate for students less than 18yrs old.


18. Do I need to send hard copies of my application materials to the university? Or just to upload electronic versions in the CUPB admission system?

A: You do not need to send us any hard copies of your application materials until such a time that we specifically ask you to send them to us.

An exception to this is the students less than 18yrs old who must send us the original copies of their guardian Certificate


19. My passport expires within 6 months. Can I apply using this passport?

A: No,you are advised to use passports that have validity of more than 6 months. Visas for entry into China and residence permits are issued to applicants with passports having a validity period of more than 6 months. You are therefore encouraged to have a passport valid for more than 6 months starting from the month of intended entry into China.


20. What is the valid period of medical form?

The Validity of a medical Form is 6months from the date of issue. Any medical results for tests taken over 6months ago are considered expired and will not be accepted.


21. Do you have any requirements about valid period of non-criminal record certification?

A: All non criminal record certificates issued in all countries have validity periods indicated on them. We shall go by the validity period indicated by the issuing authority but in most cases the validity will not be more than six(6) months after the date of issue.


22. I passed HSK exam successfully, but I haven't received the certificate yet. Can I apply without it?

A: Yes, you can apply without it but you have to upload the examination registration certificate (准考证) with the exam admission ticket number(准考证号)during your application.


23. I will finish school soon and I don't have a graduation certificate yet. Can I apply without it?

A: Yes, you can apply without it but you have to upload an official stamped letter from your school indicating that you will graduate soon, the date of intended graduation and the remaining requirements you have to fulfill before your graduation.

25. Q: How can I get to the university from the airport?

A:  You can get to the university by using a bus, taxi, or subway.

Bus: From Capital International Airport take the Changping Airport shuttle and disembark at Shui Guan Xin Cun stop then walk to the university.

Taxi: Take the Beijing taxi and ask the driver to take you to ''Zhong Guo Shi You Da Xue - Beijing, Changping'' or show him this address. "北京市昌平区府学路18号中国石油大学(北京)"

Subway: Take the subway until Changping station on the Changping line and walk to the university using navigation on your phone.


26. Can I arrive to the university in the nighttime?

A: Yes you can arrive at the university during the night but make sure you have communicated with the university and they're aware of your arrival at night. A better option would be for you to book the university pick-up service as you will be delivered to the international students residences you arranged in advance with the office, where you can spend a night and complete the registration process when offices open the following day.

27. Can I pre-order transfer from the airport to the campus? How can I do it?

A: Yes airport or train station pick up service can be booked in advance using the application system’s airport pick up service.


28. What is the registration time? What is the deadline for registration?

A: Registration time is usually the week prior to beginning of classes but specific registration times and deadlines are those indicated on your admission notice.


29. In which office will the registration take place?

A: Registration is a process and is completed in more than one office. It is usually held in the admission office (Room A205), Student management office (A207,A&B). Please refer to your admission notice for the most accurate registration venue.


30. What if I cannot arrive for registration on time? What if I missed the registration?

A: If you are unable to report to the university for registration on time for any reason, please contact the admission office. Send an Email to ([email protected] , [email protected] ) and call 0086-10-89733796 explaining the reason why you haven’t been able to register in time.

Students who do not communicate explaining their late arrival will be considered to have given up the admission offer and their information will be forwarded to the relevant departments in charge of Visa processing to inform them of the cancellation of the admission offer.


31. Q: What are the fees?

1. Application fee(Non-refunded): 400 RMB (70 USD)

2. Tuition(includes insurance)

Chinese Language Program: 21000 RMB/YEAR (3200 USD/YEAR)

Bsc Program: 25000 RMB/YEAR ( 3800 USD/YEAR)

Master’s Program: 29000 RMB/YEAR (Chinese-taught programs), 31000 RMB/YEAR (English-taught programs)

                               4400 USD/YEAR (Chinese-taught programs), 4700 USD/YEAR (English-taught programs)

PHD Program: 36000 RMB/YEAR (5500 USD/YEAR)

3. Accommodation:1200——1500 RMB/Person/Month (Double room)

                                 200——250 USD/Person/Month (Double room)

The rooms are equipped with air conditioning, cable TV, telephone, private bathroom, hot water, shower; the apartment building has a communal kitchen, laundry room, study room, activity room and other facilities.


32. Q: How much money do I need for living in Beijing for 1 month (roughly)?

33. How can I pay the application fee?

Application fees(400RMB or 70USD) can be paid through the following three methods.

1. Direct online payment using a VISA card, MasterCard or Paypal. (This is the most safe and secure way and most convenient as it is instantly verified)

2. Payment by swiping a bank card in office A207B at the POS machine. (Please upload the payment receipt into the application system and await verification by the admission office before you can proceed to submit your application.)

3. Payment by bank transfer to the university account.

34. How can I pay the tuition fee/accommodation fee? When do I need to pay?

A: Tuition and accommodation fee are paid during registration. These can be paid by swiping a bank card in office A207B at the POS machine or a deposit onto the university account over the bank counter. (Please deliver the bank payment receipt to office A207B after payment. Indicate your name and passport number as part of the transaction details.)


35. Which types of rooms are available in the student’s dormitory?

A: We have Single rooms and Double rooms


36. What are the exemption conditions for the International Undergraduate Freshmen Written Exam?

37. Can I submit my Duolingo English Test certificate as a proof of instruction in English?

A: Sorry, unfortunately you can't! We don't accept the Duolingo English Test certificate, please submit IELTS,TOEFL,TOEFL Essentials for the corresponding score, or an official letter from former university, stating English as the teaching language,  If You had your  previous  studies conducted in English for at least 2 years.

Students who provide an official letter will be required to take the English proficiency test organized by our university after registration. If they fail the test, they will have to take English lessons at their own expense during their study in our school until they pass the test. Those who provide IELTS, TOEFL and TOEFL Essentials can be exempted from the test.
